Matting is a tricky conversation to have but we only want the best for your dogs. When your dog is matted, we believe in doing what is best for your dog and their health. In many cases, this means clipping the mats out of your dog on a No10 blade. We charge an extra cost for matted fur of up to Β£30 due to extra time and other tools used, blunting of blades.
We will apply a conditioning treatment and brush your dog through. The De Matting process involves lots of brushing, taking small sections of hair at a time and trying to release the matts using dematting tools.
Under the Animal Welfare Act 2006, it is an offence to cause unnecessary suffering to an animal: This includes prolonged βde-mattingβ which is painful and detrimental to the welfare of the dog.
Shaving is not a βshort cutβ to get the job done quickly. Due to the blade being very sharp and close to the skin it has to be done very slow. It can be tedious and dangerous process due to the areas clipping and the dog not always being still. The skin is thin, likely already irritated and sometimes their hair is being pulled because of tight mats and close to the skin. Therefore, shaving a matted dog must be done slowly with utmost care.
I have products for sale in the salon and online that will help with keep your fur babies from being matted. If you would like any advice on what Brush/Comb, Shampoo/Conditioner is best for your dog please do not hesitate to contact me.
